Duncan Regehr’s Solo Exhibition: Oracle

Opening reception on Saturday, November 4th, 2023 from 1 – 4 pm.

Renowned artist, actor and author, Duncan Regehr, unveils a mesmerizing collection titled “Oracle,” presenting a timely vision of potential and precariousness, as we see an exponential presence in AI, the effects of environmental change and economic challenges around the globe. The exhibition will be hosted at the Petley Jones Gallery from November 4 – 18th, 2023.

At the heart of “Oracle” lies the artist’s deliberate choice of subjects – delicate eggs, intricate brain depictions, shells and samaras – all positioned on a prominent ledge, elevated to a position of reverence. At any moment the egg could hatch or roll off the sill and break. The maple samara, resting on a ledge, could blow away or sprout. These seemingly ordinary objects are transformed into carriers of potent symbolism, embodying latent uncertainty, and the delicate balance between growth and vulnerability. As viewers stand on the precipice of the artist’s elegant creations, they become witnesses to the inherent tension between the objects’ potential for transformation or cataclysm.

Regehr invites art enthusiasts and connoisseurs to witness a journey of profound exploration into fragility, transformation, and the enigmatic nature of the future. The precariousness is palpable, as humanity sits on the rim of invention in the moments before transformation.

Regehr elaborates, “The sedateness of the subjects might suggest quietude, complacency or even a false sense of security: the calm before the storm.”
