Petley Jones Gallery returned to its location on Granville Street with an exhibition of significant works by Emily Carr, Jean-Paul Riopelle and the Group of Seven.
Petley Jones Gallery will be celebrating the Capture Festival by featuring the works of Linda Vermeulen and Ron Smid. Drop by our new location at 2245 Granville Street to see the work of these very talented photographers.
In this exhibition ” Vague Memories ” Matt Petley-Jones has used landscapes as a vehicle for the application of paint and colour to create distance, tonal variants, changing hues and shapes.
There are many types of art that require glazing for protection. Most are works on paper. They range from original drawings, prints and paintings to reproductions and giclees. At Petley Jones Gallery our focus is on original works both historic and contemporary. This exhibition shows off the diversity of our collection.

Sounds Good on Paper marked the first solo show of acclaimed Haida artist, Gwaai Edenshaw in March 2012.
The exhibition, and catalogue, introduced viewers not only to the creative process, imagery, development and breadth of Gwaai’s artistic practice, but also addresses issues of established cultural and historical notions of Haida art.
Amelia Alcock-White’s latest collection of aquatic landscapes depicts a lone figure taking refuge in secluded coastal surroundings. By juxtaposing light and dark, fire and water, with nature’s beauty and fragility, the images suggest the interrelation of personal awareness and environmental consciousness.
The War of 1812 was a fundamental turning point in Canada’s history: it profoundly influenced Canada’s sense of identity and united French- and English-speaking inhabitants, Indigenous communities, farmers, soldiers, artisans and others in an effort to preserve their ways of life from American invasion. Two-hundred years ago, the HMS Shannon celebrated victory on the high seas against the USS Chesapeake. In highly detailed engraving, this large format 5 oz fine silver coin commemorates the historic battle that still remains a formative event in Canadian history.
Design
Designed by Canadian artist John Horton, this coin depicts the final moments of the famous battle of the HMS Shannon (at right) and the battle-worn USS Chesapeake (at left), its decks ablaze and gun-ports destroyed. Your coin features an embossed bilingual title that celebrates the HMS Shannon’s victory by listing its name first “THE/LE SHANNON AND THE/ET LE CHESAPEAKE.” It also features the dates “1813-2013,” commemorating 200 years since the famous war battle.
