Born in Edmonton, Matt Petley-Jones graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Arts Special in 1978 with a major in painting. Mr. Petley-Jones is the owner and director of the Petley Jones Gallery, established in 1986.

Matt credits his love of art to his family; his parents were both professional photographers and influences such as his uncle Llewellyn Petley-Jones made a huge impact on his aesthetic sensibilities.

Drawn to the energy created in composition, Matt’s paintings focus on creating movement through broken down forms and the interplay of colour on the canvas. He attempts to retain the essence of his subject while bringing to it a new dimension through his vibrant palette.
