Matt Petley-Jones

Petley Jones Gallery was established by owner,

director and painter Matt Petley-Jones.

Born in Edmonton, Matt Petley-Jones graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Arts Special in 1978 with a major in painting.

Matt credits his love of art to his family; his parents were both professional photographers and influences such as his uncle Llewellyn Petley-Jones made a huge impact on his aesthetic sensibilities.

Drawn to the energy created in composition, Matt’s paintings focus on creating movement through broken down forms and the interplay of colour on the canvas. He attempts to retain the essence of his subject while bringing to it a new dimension through his vibrant palette.

Gallery Representation

Matt’s paintings are also available at the Canadian Fine Arts in Toronto and SOPA FINE ARTS in Kelowna.

Matt’s work is exhibiting in a curated installation of artwork at the “Asia / Pacific Group’s Annual Meeting and Technical Assistance & Training Forum” in July 2023.

The exhibition “Bridging Borders: A Table of Equals” brings together a diverse group of contemporary artists whose myriad of artistic mediums and perspectives explore the potential for collaboration, understanding, and unity in an increasingly interconnected world.
