BIOGRAPHY

Georgia Hunter is a Canadian artist residing in Vancouver, Canada and Gold Hill, Oregon.

She is a multi-talented and gifted artist working in a variety of mediums. She holds a degree from the University of British Columbia majoring in Fine Arts. She did further studies at the Medicine Hat College in Visual Communications and in Fine Arts at the University of Lethbridge where she received the Board of Governers’ Award for Art in 1982 and again in 1983. She was twice awarded a bursary for high grade point average for Visual Communications in Medicine Hat, Alberta.

Georgia’s paintings and sculptures have gained recognition in the wider art community in the years following her formal training. She won Best of the Show for Sculpture in Medicine Hat in 1987 and the Alberta wide ACACA art show in 1990. In 2002 her sculpture ‘Salmon’ won honorary mention at the Seymour Art Gallery. In 2004 her sculpture ‘Lessons from Geese’ won The Delta Arts Council award for three-dimensional work. She is also involved in public art as a creator of street banners for the city of Vancouver. Her sculpture ‘Salmon’ was short-listed for public art in the city of Vancouver Public Art Competition.

Now Georgia divides her time between three dimensional sculpture and two dimensional work. She writes/illustrates children’s books. Her choice of medium may be ink, watercolour or pencil crayon. She sculpts in wax or foam and has her work cast in bronze at the Maiden Foundry in Portland, Oregon.

Georgia’s work has been in galleries across Canada and in the United States. Her sculptures are in private and corporate collections in Canada, USA and Britain.
