Andra Ghecevici
Born in Bucharest 1981, in a family of Romanian artists, Andra Ghecevici received her formal Fine Art Degree in Romania in 2003. She relocated to Canada in 2006 and has since earned a Master of Arts degree from The University of British Columbia while establishing her reputation as a professional artist. Many of Ghecevici’s works are part of private art collections throughout Canada and United States as well as Europe.
With a coherent and matured style, Ghecevici’s art never fails to deliver an exceptional visual experience.
Artist Statement
I had my first portfolio put together when I was five. I grew up with brushes in both hands and paints in my hair. Artistic medium has always been not only my way of expression and communication of deepest thoughts, but a bodily experience as well. I am truly happy only when my clothes bear paint stains and the air is embedded with the smells of freshly painted canvas – “art work in progress” I am thinking, and my pulse rises. I treasure the creative process more than the final product. I relax sketching and I put myself through an addictive hell combined with heavenly delight when I work in the studio.
And so I confess the relationships that are always transforming me, bringing consequences to my life and work, inducing directions and predispositions just as the main stem of a tree generates its branches into a scheme of countless twists and angles. Art is my way of being; it is my life. AG
